The Vendee Globe is the most challenging sporting event on the planet

Alone & Unassisted

Erik will be sailing single-handed non-stop around the world in the 2020 Vendee Globe, starting and finishing in the small town of Les Sables d’Olonne in the Vendee region of France. The rules are simple, race 27,000 nautical miles around the world via the three capes without assistance while sailing an Open 60.

This grueling endurance race is not only a relentless test of the competitor’s boat but also the competitor’s spirit, creativity, and resourcefulness to overcome the challenges faced during 3 months of sailing in the world’s most formidable waters.

Since the first addition of the race in1989, only 71 sailors have managed to complete the race. To put it in perspective, more people have summited K2 and more people have been to outer space than have finished the Vendee Globe.

Due to the challenging nature of this race and the preparations required, it is only held every 4 years.
